My 22
Reading through a personal to do list I created in Fall 2021 and realizing that I had only accomplished a handful of the tasks/errands I set out for that day didn’t feel great. Reading that list made me remember something I had told a friend in a conversation around that time, “I’m good at recognizing paths forward but executing them for myself in my personal life is where I can come up short.”
I don’t know if it’s lethargy, my personality, my desire for perfection that sometimes hinders my ability to start given I might fail, or a combination of these and a whole lot of other things in my life, but it was so simple to write that line to my friend that morning yet had been hard to own it in my “real life” offline.
My 22 changes that.
I wrote a blog post, Putting 2 and 2 together - the path to my next 22, and now I’ve set out to work toward 22 changes I want to accomplish in 2022. I’m revisiting a concept I created a few years back, my 19 for 19, which was a year long set of 19 goals I wanted to achieve. My 22 are changes I want to see in my life this year.
I can’t promise success, but I’ll promise to bring authentic honesty as I work to better myself and live a life day by day that I’m proud of. I promise to work toward choosing the paths forward working toward the things I want in life instead of failing to even start because that seems easier and safer than failing once I begin.
These are my 22.
I’m going to focus in on my health in the last year of my 20s.
Wake up by 6 a.m. every morning.
Own the things I enjoy - don’t hide behind fabricated perfection.
Journal daily - don’t be afraid to be messy.
Write something monthly, share what’s on my mind even if it’s not perfect.
Change my attitude.
Go out to eat by myself every once in a while and leave my phone at home - enjoy the solitude & the food, not my phone.
Spend less time on my phone and more time reading in my house.
Eat less processed foods and choose healthier options more often.
Trust my gut.
Get active regularly.
No phone an hour before bed.
“The best weight you'll ever lose is the weight of other people's opinions.” - Lesley Bradshaw.
Read 30 minutes everyday.
No procrastinating - there’s never a completely free 30 days to accomplish my goals. Life will happen - get after it regardless.
Deactivate Instagram for summer break - May to August.
Put myself out there - don’t settle into a routine of convenience.
Cook for myself more often.
Change my perspective - ask me about this one if you want to learn more.
Invest more in myself.
Fail more. It’s a part of the growing process.
Drink less beer and more kombucha.
